Local specialities
There are plenty of local foods and
drinks to try,and many are on sale at the local markets, including organic breads,brioche,biscuits,madeleines
d'Armor,Breton cakes, honey, pollen,sweets,chocolates,crepes,cider,apple juice,Breton whiskey,Breton beers,wines,cheeses,meats,
seafood,cider vinegar,fruit and vegetables.

MAEL-CARHAIX
The village of Mael-Carhaix is just 3km from Ty Magor gites
& bed and breakfast. Les Jardins de Kervezennec (water gardens)
- are open all year, and entry is free. The water gardens cover 25 hectares, including ponds, flower beds, lawns for picnics and games, and
a sandy play area for younger children. The gardens are well stocked with plants, and the ponds attract a variety of waterfowl. There is a tourist information board situated at the water gardens.

| Wildlife haven in central Brittany |
Nearby, are remains of a Roman aquaduct.
To see the remains,there are 3 walking routes in
Mael-Carhaix and the surrounding areas. One of the paths is directly opposite our property.
There are many local walking trails , and Ty Magor
is just a 3 minute drive from the Nantes Brest canal, ideal for walking or cycling.
Close by there is a riding club for lessons and treks.
You can visit local
farms and buy either locally made cheese,cider, honey, or beautiful local mohair.
Nantes-Brest Canal
The beautiful Nantes-Brest canal is just
3km from our bed and breakfast and gite.
If you have an interest in walking, cycling,
boating, or flora and fauna,the canal offers each of these attractions.
The canal is a haven for birds, including
kingfishers, herons, and waterfowl.
Koypu can often be spotted either on
the canal banks or in the water.
A wide selection of butterflies can also
be seen along the towpaths, attracted to the large variety of flora along the canal banks.
The "Grande Tranche" at Glomel is 10km from our
bed and breakfast and gite.
This section of the canal was dug by
prisoners along the rivers Oust and Blavet.
There are information boards along the length
of the tranche, explaining what life was probably like for the prisoners who dug along this section.
The nearby watersports centre at Rostrenen organises
half day or full day canoe hire and trips by appointment on the Nantes-Brest canal with a circuit equipped with a waterslide
for inflatable canoes and on Glomel lake(approx 10km from Mael-Carhaix - Children must be over 8 years.
This exceptional area is suitable for all
types of trips on the water, or along the water's edge. There are two options for canoeists: a flat water circuit, 5km, 3
hours - which goes through the unspoiled Grande Tranche area with it's flora including royal ferns.
The canal then gets wider and opens into
Trebel lake which is surrounded by farmland. The trip ends at Mezouet lake again surrounded by meadows, and you choose whether
to return to the departure point.
There are boat trips suitable for each member
of the family from Bon Repos Abbey in Guarec. The trip along the canal is about 1 hour 30 minutes.
Locarn
Locarn is a local village of interest - with an area of
moorland, and an unspoiled valley. Locarn has peatland, with rare flora -including sundew and ossifrage. Locarn is home to hen harriers
and warblers.
The beautiful Carong gorges, close to Locarn, are covered
in woodland with granite formations beneath. The river Blavet runs through, and there are lovely walking trails through
the gorges.

CARHAIX
The town of Carhaix is 10km from our bed and
breakfast and gite.
Carhaix is known as the town in the country.
Entertainment includes an adventure
park,karting, bowling, squash, snooker,golf, concerts, cinema, exhibitions,fishing, canoing, and swimming pool, horse riding,
automaton museum,and walking trails.
There is a wide choice of cafes, restaurants,creperies,
pizzerias, brasseries and McDonalds.
You can buy locally produced foods and crafts,
including local breads, cheeses, art, pottery, and celtic goods.
Carhaix is also the venue of an annual
summer festival called the Festival des vieilles charrues, which includes music and acts for all of the family to enjoy.
Carhaix has a tourist information office.
Carhaix street market is held on Saturdays.
There is an adventure park in Carhaix to suit
children of all ages.
KERGRIST MOELOU
A fine Gothic church of Notre Dame and
16th century calvary are situated Kergrist Moelou.(Just 10km from our bed and breakfast and gite )
The church has original sculptures and gargoyles.
There is also a parish enclosure.
With a nature park, and surrounded
by countryside, the village is an excellent choice for walking and sightseeing.
ST NICHOLAS DU PELEM
This is an excellent base for walking
and exploring the other nearby villages. There is a very fine church, lakes, rural museum, and plenty of picturesque routes
for walking, cycling or horse riding.
The Rural Museum has a 1930's classroom. and
an exhibition of fables during the summer season.
Mael-Pestivien
Visit the strange stone known as the "Druid's
Chair". It is thought it could have been used as a sacrificial altar. It bears the traces of a human body and closely guards
the secrets of its past.
According to legend, the Park Ar Men Sul standing
stone will dance for you if you visit it at midday during summer or winter solstice.
HUELGOAT
Huelgoat is a must-visit tourist site.
Ice-age rocks and boulders tumbled into the
beautiful valley, and created a fantastic landscape.
There are a variety of walking trails through
valley and around the small market town. At the top end of the lake, which sits in the heart of the town, begins a series
of walks through "Arthurian legend" land.
The town itself is small and picturesque.
There are plenty of cafes,restaurants, gift shops, and a tourist centre.

Guerledan
Guerledan lake is the largest lake
in Brittany. It is bordered by 3,000 hectares of forestry.
Thelake is a wintering ground for birds. Visitor attractions
include:

MORLAIX and MONTS d'AREE
Less than 1 hour from our bed and breakfast
and gite,is the region of Morlaix and the mountain range Monts d'Arree.
Monts d'Aree is a national park, and is a
favourite place for walking and nature watching.
There is also a museum of the wolf, telling
the past history of wolves in the local area.
The town of Morlaix is at the end of the bay
of Morlaix, and has a variety of historic buildings and churches.
A scenic driving route leads from Morlaix,
along the estuary to Carantec which is situated at the mouth of the Baie de Morlaix. Carantec is a pretty coastal
resort, and well worth a visit.
The Morlaix area is rich in interest: museums,
parks and gardens, rural crafts, arts,water sports, and water cruises.
